Classic – Belgian Abbey Style Ale and a Washed Rind Cheese

June 5, 2012

In this instance we have Mc Chouffe by Brasserie Achouffe. Mc Chouffe as described by the brewery is a Belgian brown ale but could probably be more categorized as a Belgian strong dark ale.

It has a great earthy and phenolic smell that pairs perfectly with this funky rind cheese. The similarities are striking. The taste starts of with a kick of hops and ends with a spicy sweetness, all masked in that typical Belgian yeasty taste.

What better way to end my day all thanks to the Whole Foods on 96th and Columbus.
